Petra was built by the Nabateans in what is now southern Jordan, while the civilization was amassing great wealth trading with its Greek and Persian contemporaries around 150BC.
The Dead Sea is only about a two-hour drive from Petra, and it is the site of the national riviera: luxury hotels aligned along what might be called the Côte de Sel.
If you have 4 to 6 days for your visit to Jordan, you can comfortably fit in Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea. You can either focus your time between these 3 amazing places, or add a few additional destinations onto your itinerary including Aqaba at the shores of Red Sea, or spend some time exploring Amman.
